Beijing Day Trip

After breakfast, begin your day at Tiananmen Square, the world’s largest public plaza and the site where Chairman Mao announced the founding of the People’s Republic of China. From here, walk through Tiananmen Gate into the legendary Forbidden City, a vast imperial palace with nearly 10,000 rooms. Home to 24 Ming and Qing emperors, it remains one of China’s greatest architectural and cultural treasures. As you explore its grand halls and quiet courtyards, imagine the daily life of the imperial court.

After exiting the palace, take a short stroll to Jingshan Park. A quick climb to the top offers a sweeping panoramic view—an excellent vantage point for photos of the Forbidden City and the surrounding historic sites, including Beihai Park and the Drum Tower. The palace’s picturesque corner towers are also a popular photography spot.

Following lunch, head to the outskirts of the city to visit the Summer Palace, once the imperial family’s summer retreat and today the largest and best-preserved royal garden in China. Wander among lakeside pavilions, temples, and gracefully arched bridges. Stroll the famous Long Corridor, decorated with thousands of colorful paintings depicting Chinese legends and landscapes.

At the end of the day, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel.

Beijing Day Trip

This morning, you’ll drive about 70 km (1.5 hours) to the Mutianyu Great Wall, a scenic and less-crowded section of this world-famous monument. Take an enclosed cable car up to Watchtower No. 14, where your walk begins. From here, hike west along the wall through a series of impressive watchtowers, enjoying sweeping mountain views. The route is moderate and suitable for most visitors, including families. If you’re looking for a challenge, continue up the steep Great Man Slope to Watchtower No. 20, the highest point at Mutianyu, for even more dramatic vistas. After exploring, return to Watchtower No. 14 and descend by cable car.

Optional Toboggan Ride: Travelers under 60 may choose to descend via the fun toboggan slide at Watchtower No. 6. Queues are common during peak seasons and holidays.

Next, visit the Sacred Way, a 7-kilometer ceremonial path leading to the Ming Tombs. Walk through China’s largest stone archway and the Great Palace Gate, then continue along the avenue lined with impressive stone statues—12 pairs of mythical creatures and 12 officials guarding the imperial spirits.

On the way back to Beijing, stop briefly at the Olympic Village to view the iconic Bird’s Nest and Water Cube from the outside.

Finally, return to your hotel to end the day.

Beijing to Xi’an by High Speed Train

After breakfast, visit the Temple of Heaven, where Ming and Qing emperors once held grand ceremonies to pray for good harvests. As you walk through its impressive halls and peaceful pine woods, you’ll also see local residents practicing tai chi, dancing, and enjoying their morning exercises—adding vibrant local culture to this historic site.

Return to the city center for a rickshaw ride through the Hutongs, the traditional alleyways of old Beijing. These narrow lanes, lined with historic courtyard homes, offer a glimpse into the city’s authentic past. Explore small shops and boutiques, and visit a local family’s home to better understand everyday hutong life.

Your Beijing tour concludes here. Your guide will escort you to Beijing West Railway Station for a high-speed train to Xi’an (about 5 hours). Upon arrival, your Xi’an guide will meet you at the station and transfer you to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to explore this ancient capital at your own pace.

Xi’an City Exploration

After breakfast, drive about 40 km to visit the Terracotta Warriors, one of the world’s greatest archaeological discoveries. Built by Emperor Qin Shi Huang to guard him in the afterlife, this vast underground army includes more than 8,000 life-size soldiers, horses, and chariots arranged in full battle formation. Buried for over 2,000 years and accidentally discovered by a farmer in 1974, the site reveals both the emperor’s extraordinary ambition and the remarkable craftsmanship of ancient Chinese artisans.

After lunch, return to Xi’an to visit Da Cien Temple, the historic center of Buddhist scripture translation during the Tang Dynasty. Its most famous landmark is the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, built by the monk Xuanzang to store the sacred texts he brought back from India—the same monk who inspired the character Tang Seng in Journey to the West.

In the evening, enjoy a visit to the lively Grand Tang Dynasty Ever Bright City, a pedestrian area filled with vibrant lights, sculptures, and performances that bring the splendor of the Tang Dynasty to life. The night atmosphere here is especially impressive, offering a striking contrast to its daytime appearance.

Xi’an to Guilin by Flight

After breakfast, begin your day with a visit to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda and the Xi’an Museum, both located within a peaceful park. Built between 707 and 709 AD, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda stands 43.4 meters tall with 13 remaining tiers and has remarkably survived nearly 70 earthquakes over the centuries. Stroll around the pagoda to admire its elegant design and take photos.

Just a short walk away, the Xi’an Museum houses more than 130,000 artifacts, including jade pieces, seals, paintings, porcelain, Buddhist statues, stone carvings, and other cultural treasures that offer insight into Xi’an’s long history.

Next, enjoy a relaxing visit to the Ancient City Wall, the largest and best-preserved city wall in China. Enter through Hanguang Gate, where a small museum displays original Tang Dynasty wall ruins dating back over 1,400 years. Afterward, head up to the top of the wall for panoramic views of Xi’an. You may also rent a bike (approximately 45 RMB) for a scenic ride along the ramparts—routes and duration are flexible based on your preference.

Continue to the vibrant Muslim Quarter, a lively neighborhood filled with food stalls, local snacks, and traditional handicrafts—an ideal place to enjoy a leisurely walk and experience local Muslim culture.

The rest of the day is free until your guide escorts you to the airport for your flight to Guilin (about 2 hours). Upon arrival, your local guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Enjoy the evening at your leisure in this beautiful city.

After breakfast, you’ll return to Guilin by private vehicle (about 1.5–2 hours). Your first stop is Elephant Trunk Hill, the iconic symbol of Guilin. This natural rock formation resembles an elephant drinking from the river, and the area also features stone carvings, a small Buddhist temple, and other cultural relics.

Next, continue to Reed Flute Cave, about 7 kilometers away. Often called a “natural underground palace,” the cave is filled with colorful lighting that highlights millions of years of geological formations—stalactites, stalagmites, stone curtains, and other stunning shapes.

After the visit, your guide will transfer you to the airport for your flight to Shanghai, China’s most vibrant modern metropolis. Upon arrival, a local guide will meet you and escort you to your downtown hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the city at your own pace.

At 546 meters (1,791 feet), it offers a breathtaking 360° view of the city—from the futuristic Pudong skyline to the historic Bund and the winding Huangpu River.

Next, visit the Shanghai Museum East, home to world-class collections of bronzes, ceramics, jade, calligraphy, paintings, and sculpture spanning over 5,000 years of Chinese history. An audio guide is provided to help you better understand the highlights of the museum.

Continue to Shanghai Old Town to visit Yu Garden, a classic Jiangnan-style garden built more than 450 years ago. Wander past pavilions, halls, ponds, ancient trees, and beautifully shaped rockeries that showcase traditional Chinese aesthetics and craftsmanship. Outside, Yuyuan Bazaar is a lively area where you can browse traditional handicrafts and try local snacks.

Later, head to Nanjing Road, Shanghai’s most famous commercial street, filled with shops, cafés, restaurants, and modern malls. From here, it’s an easy walk to the Bund—the city’s signature waterfront and a perfect vantage point for the iconic skyline of Lujiazui. Lined with 52 historic European-style buildings, the Bund is often described as an open-air museum of world architecture and beautifully captures Shanghai’s evolution from a former treaty port to a global financial center.
