In the morning, we’ll head to Lhasa, enjoying the enchanting scenery along the Niyang River. According to legend, the river was born from the tears of a goddess—its emerald waters run clear and calm, with green waves reaching all the way to the riverbed. After about an hour’s drive, we’ll arrive at one of Tibet’s most breathtaking sights: Basumtso, often called the “Little Switzerland” of Tibet. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains and dense forests, this alpine lake offers a truly magical landscape. We’ll take a wooden raft to the small island in the middle of the lake, where we can lean on the railing and take in the panoramic views of Basomtso’s tranquil waters and majestic peaks. We will arrive in Lhasa later in the evening.

Downtown Lhasa: Potala Palace — Jokhang Temple — Barkhor Street

In the morning, we will visit the iconic Potala Palace—the highest ancient castle-like building complex in the world, once the residence of the Dalai Lama and the heart of Tibetan political and religious life. Inside, we’ll find the golden stupas that enshrine the remains of past Dalai Lamas, along with a vast collection of exquisite murals, thangkas, and sacred Buddha statues—each one a vivid embodiment of Tibetan culture and spirituality.

After lunch, we’ll make our way to Jokhang Temple, the earliest Buddhist temple in Tibet, built during the Tubo Dynasty. Here, we’ll behold the revered twelve-year-old life-size statue of Sakyamuni, which was brought to Tibet by Princess Wencheng. This statue is considered the holiest and most spiritually significant by Tibetan Buddhists. As we explore the temple grounds, we’ll witness the deep devotion of local worshippers—and if we wish, we can join them in walking the sacred Barkhor Street circuit, turning prayer wheels and offering our thoughts for the well-being of all living beings.

As we approach, the vivid blue waters stretch out to meet the distant snow-capped peaks, framed by rugged mountains, scattered Tibetan villages, and herds of cattle and sheep grazing peacefully along the shores. In the afternoon, we will return to Lhasa, carrying with us the memory of this stunning landscape.

In the early morning, we’ll set off across the vast grasslands of northern Tibet, taking in the sight of colourful prayer flags fluttering along the Qinghai-Tibet Highway. We’ll ascend Mount Naganla, which rises to 5,190 metres above sea level, to reach Namtso—“Sky Lake”—the highest saltwater lake in the world and the foremost of Tibet’s three sacred lakes, sitting at an elevation of 4,718 metres.

Surrounded by sweeping grasslands and rich pastures, Namtso is a place of breathtaking beauty. The region teems with wildlife—yaks, goats, and a variety of wild birds. The lake itself is home to both scaled and scaleless fish, and its crystal-clear waters reflect the surrounding snow-capped peaks. It’s a sight that feels like a luminous pearl resting upon the endless expanse of the Qiangtang grassland.

As evening falls, we will make our way back to Lhasa, bathed in the golden afterglow of the setting sun.
