Arrival in Chengdu
Welcome to Chengdu, China’s panda capital! On arrival at Chengdu Airport or the train station your private driver and guide will greet you and transfer you to your centrally located hotel for check-in and rest. With the hotel situated in Chengdu’s main commercial district, you can easily walk to the upscale Taikoo Li (Taikooli) shopping precinct — a stylish open-air mall surrounded by boutiques, cafés and restaurants — and also discover an ancient Buddhist shrine tucked away nearby.
Dinner suggestion (own expense): For authentic local flavours head to Kuixinglou Food Street — a bustling old-style food lane of small eateries and stalls serving Sichuan classics and street snacks (approx. CNY 30–60 / USD 4–8.5 per person).

Chengdu: Panda Base, Local Markets & Tea Culture
Start early (roughly 08:00) and spend the morning at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding — the city’s world-famous conservation and research centre where you can observe giant pandas (and red pandas) of different ages in habitats designed to resemble the wild. Morning visits give the best chance to see active feeding and playful behaviour.
After the panda base, your guide will lead you to Xiaojiahe Community and its lively food street by the Xiaojiahe River for an optional lunch at local favourites (e.g., Yongle Restaurant). In the afternoon explore a traditional local vegetable market to see everyday life, then stroll along the riverbank tea houses. Experience Chengdu’s leisurely tea culture — sit down for a cup of tea (or the locally served “gaiwan coffee”) and, if you wish, try a short game of mahjong-style socialising. Return to the hotel in the evening.

Chengdu → Leshan Giant Buddha → Mount Emei
Drive about 2 hours to Leshan to visit the Leshan Giant Buddha, a monumental 71-metre stone statue carved into the hillside during the Tang Dynasty that oversees the confluence of rivers below. The best way to appreciate its scale is by taking a short river cruise that sails in front of the statue and stops so you can photograph the full view. The Leshan Giant Buddha and Mount Emei are part of the same UNESCO World Heritage site.
After sightseeing in Leshan, continue to the foot of Mount Emei and check in to your mountain hotel. Rest and have dinner — you’ll prepare for a full day on the mountain tomorrow.

Mount Emei: Wannian Temple & Baoguo Temple → Return to Chengdu
Spend a full day exploring Mount Emei, one of China’s Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains and a UNESCO-listed scenic area noted for its ancient temples, cloud seas, waterfalls and millennia-old forests. To save energy, cable cars have been arranged from the parking area up into the scenic zones. Walk 10–20 minutes from the cable car to Wannian (Ten-Thousand Years) Temple, an ancient temple complex that houses important Buddhist relics (historically associated with a tooth relic). Be mindful of resident monkeys around temple areas — do not carry visible food and keep belongings secure.
Later visit Baoguo Temple, the largest temple complex at the mountain’s base with several main halls, pavilions and gardens — a peaceful place where many visitors light incense and appreciate classical calligraphy and ancient architecture. After the day’s exploration, drive back to Chengdu and check in.
Background note: Mount Emei and the Leshan Giant Buddha together form the Mount Emei Scenic Area, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for both cultural and natural values.

Chengdu: Jinsha Site Museum, Wide & Narrow Alley & Departure
This morning visit the Jinsha Site Museum, where excavations revealed spectacular Shu civilization relics (including the famed gold “Sun and Immortal Birds” / Golden Sun Bird piece unearthed in 2001). The museum’s displays provide a vivid window into ancient Sichuan cultures and craftsmanship.
Finish your Chengdu experience with a walk through the Wide and Narrow Alley – three parallel alleys lined with preserved courtyard houses that now host teahouses, eateries and shops. This atmospheric district gives a sense of old Chengdu and is a good place for last-minute souvenirs or a Sichuan Opera performance (face-changing). Afterward your guide and driver will transfer you to Chengdu airport or train station for your onward flight or departure.
