Discover Beijing’s Imperial Heritage
We begin at Tiananmen Square, a symbol of China’s history. On the north side stands the Tiananmen Gate Tower, the main entrance to the imperial palace (1368-1911), and the site of major national events. The Monument to the People’s Heroes honors those who sacrificed for China’s independence. To the west is the Great Hall of the People, reflecting China’s evolving history. Our guide will share Beijing’s rich past and present.
Next, we’ll visit the Forbidden City, also known as the Palace Museum. This 600-year-old complex is the largest wooden structure in the world and a symbol of imperial China. Its symmetrical design and golden halls will leave you in awe as we explore the lives of the 24 emperors who once resided here.
In the afternoon, we’ll head to Jingshan Park, known for its towering trees and the Wanchun Pavilion, which offers a panoramic view of the Forbidden City. Then, we’ll visit the Temple of Heaven, where the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests represents China’s cosmological view. You’ll also see the Circular Mound Altar and the Echo Wall, famous for its unique acoustics.
Afterward, we’ll return to your hotel.

Great Wall Highlights
After breakfast, your guide will take you on a private car ride to the Mutianyu Great Wall, located in suburban Beijing. Known as the most picturesque section, Mutianyu is surrounded by lush vegetation, making it a photographer’s paradise year-round. In spring, flowers bloom; in summer, the mountains are covered in vibrant cypress and pine trees; autumn brings red leaves; and in winter, the Wall is draped in a silver coat, adding to its majesty. The Wall features several watchtowers and beacon towers, showcasing China’s ancient military glory.
Next, we’ll head back to downtown Beijing for a Hutong rickshaw tour. The narrow alleys, lined with traditional Siheyuan courtyards, offer a glimpse into the everyday life of Beijingers. Along the way, you might encounter street vendors, barbers, or repairmen, evoking the charm of old Beijing. You’ll also visit a traditional courtyard home, where a local family will share insights into the city’s rich cultural heritage.

Beijing-Zhangjiajie
Start your day with a visit to Beijing Zoo, home to China’s national treasure, the giant panda. As the oldest and largest zoo in China, it was the site of the first captive panda birth. The Panda House, with 11 pandas in total, is the main attraction, and you’ll have the chance to see nine of them. Mornings are the best time to observe them in action as they eat bamboo, play, or swing in hammocks.
Next, we’ll head to the Summer Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an imperial garden built by Emperor Qianlong as a birthday gift for his mother. The Long Corridor, adorned with thousands of paintings, is a highlight, as are the classical Chinese structures, including halls, pavilions, and archways scattered throughout the garden.
In the late afternoon, you’ll fly to Zhangjiajie, a 2.5-hour flight. Upon arrival, your guide will escort you to a hotel near the scenic area for tomorrow’s adventure.

National Park Exploration: Hallelujah Mountain
Today, immerse yourself in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, starting with the Bailong Elevator, the world’s highest cliffside lift. In just 88 seconds, it will transport you to the summit, offering breathtaking views of towering peaks that seem to rise from the earth like soldiers.
Next, we’ll explore Yuanjiajie Scenic Area, the real-life filming location for Avatar. Here, you’ll see Hallelujah Mountain, also known as Qiankun Pillar, a 300-meter-high pillar of rock covered in lush vegetation. Afterward, we’ll take a shuttle bus to Tianzi Mountain, famous for its unique quartz sandstone peaks sculpted by millions of years of erosion. One notable peak is Flower Fairy Peak, named after a Tujia girl who transformed into stone after mourning her king’s death.
We’ll then descend by cable car and hike along the Golden Whip Stream, a 5-mile-long path that winds through a picturesque valley, flanked by steep cliffs and vibrant flora. The sunlight filtering through the trees creates a serene atmosphere. To cap off the day, we’ll take a scenic train ride along the Ten-Mile Gallery, famous for its peaks in various shapes. One peak, resembling an elderly man, is called Longevity God Welcoming Guests.
Finally, return to your hotel for a restful evening.

Tianmen Mountain & Departure
This morning, take the world’s longest cableway from downtown Zhangjiajie to Tianmen Mountain, the second-largest forest park in the area. The 30-minute ride offers stunning views of the city, peaceful countryside, and rolling mountains, all shrouded in clouds.
At the summit, walk along the Guigu Plank Road, perched between cliffs and valleys, offering the perfect vantage point to enjoy the sea of clouds. The Glass Skywalk, suspended in the air, will give you an exhilarating experience. After your 2-hour mountaintop tour, descend via the 7-level escalator to Tianmen Cave, famous for extreme challenges like the 1999 Guinness World Record flight through the cave and French climber Robert’s bare-hand ascent in 2007. Finally, descend the 999-step Heavenly Stairway to Tianmen Cave Square and take the express cable car down.
With that, your 6-day Beijing to Zhangjiajie tour concludes. Your guide will accompany you to the airport or train station. If you have more travel plans, feel free to contact our consultant to customize your next adventure. Farewell!
