Xi’an City Exploration
This morning, you’ll explore the remarkable Terracotta Army, an underground force created for Emperor Qin Shi Huang (259–210 BC). Thousands of life-sized warriors stand in battle formation, each with unique facial features and expressions. Their impressive height—ranging from about 173 cm (5’8″) to 196 cm (6’5″)—likely reflects the emperor’s preference for tall soldiers, along with the height added by hair buns and pedestal bases.
In addition to the main excavation pits, you’ll visit a new exhibition hall showcasing over 200 recently unearthed artifacts from the emperor’s mausoleum—many displayed for the first time. Highlights include bronze waterfowl, small gold and silver pieces, gaming items, and rare pottery with original pigments. The exhibits are organized into themes that reveal Qin-era art, society, philosophy, and the mysteries of the emperor’s still-unopened underground palace.
Lunch is at your own expense; your guide will suggest nearby restaurants based on your preferences.
In the afternoon, return to the city to visit the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, built in the Tang Dynasty to house Buddhist scriptures brought back from India by Monk Xuanzang. The seven-story pagoda contains valuable cultural relics, including two Buddhist sariras gifted by Indian monks in 1998. Continue to the Great Tang All Day Mall, a lively pedestrian area designed to resemble a bustling Tang-era street.
Finally, your guide and driver will take you back to your hotel. If you’d like to stay longer to enjoy the night lights and performances at the Tang Mall, your guide will explain how to return to the hotel on your own.
