Kiziliya Grand Canyon: newer, far fewer visitors, and the only canyon in the area you can drive into

That single difference completely changes the experience.

3. Three Ways to Explore Kiziliya Grand Canyon

After purchasing your ticket, staff will clearly explain your options.
There are three routes into the canyon, each offering a different experience.

1️⃣ Shuttle + Hiking (The “One-Line Sky” Route)

This route takes a shuttle to the famous narrow section known as One-Line Sky, followed by about 1 km of walking.

Important to know:
This trail is essentially the walking route of the Tianshan Mysterious Grand Canyon, as the two parks connect internally.

Pros:

Extremely narrow canyon walls
Strong vertical compression and dramatic light beams

Cons:

Crowded
Heavily developed
Less sense of wilderness

2️⃣ Two-Wheel-Drive Self-Drive Route (Highly Recommended) 🚗

This is the true highlight of Kiziliya Grand Canyon.

Total distance: about 10 km
Unpaved road, but technically easy
You can stop anywhere it’s safe to park

Wind-carved rock formations line the road, and massive red sandstone walls rise directly beside your vehicle. Even on days with dust or weaker visibility, the landscape remains powerful and worth the visit.

This route does not reach One-Line Sky, but the scenery is just as impressive—wilder, more open, and perfect for environmental portraits and cinematic car photography.

3️⃣ Four-Wheel-Drive Deep Route (Not Recommended for Most)

Only accessible to 4WD vehicles, with complex road conditions.

Unless you’re an experienced off-road driver, it’s not worth the risk.

4. Real Self-Drive Experience: What to Watch Out For

The canyon is much larger than it appears on maps, with multiple entrances
Some sections of the driving route narrow to single-lane width—drive slowly, especially if you’re inexperienced
Certain entrances may close without notice, even if road signs suggest otherwise

⚠️ We personally experienced this:
An entrance off the Duku Highway was unexpectedly closed with no staff present, forcing a 20-km detour and cutting our canyon time short.

👉 Best advice:
Use the main entrance for both entry and exit. Don’t gamble on side gates.

5. The Ultimate Photo Spot: “Harry Potter Castle” Viewpoint

This elevated platform is the soul of the self-drive route.

Overlooks the vast red canyon from above
Especially stunning at sunset
Ideal for cinematic vehicle shots

The only downside is nearby construction of unknown purpose, which slightly disrupts the natural atmosphere—but the view itself remains exceptional.
