Kashgar Arrival – Border Permit – Old City Citywalk
Crossing the vast land of China like ancient Silk Road travelers, we arrive in Kashgar, the very heart of Asia. As early as Zhang Qian’s expedition to the Western Regions, Shule (today’s Kashgar) was already recorded in Chinese history—giving the city more than 2,000 years of written history.
Depending on your flight schedule, we will arrange airport pickup, assist in obtaining the Border Permit (required for entering Tashkurgan), and help with hotel check-in.
Kashgar Old City Citywalk
After a short rest, we unlock the world’s “Living Open-Air Cultural Museum.” For over two millennia, Kashgar Old Town has served as a critical hub connecting China and the West. Its maze-like alleys and ancient architecture preserve the authentic lifestyle of the Uyghur people. We will explore the Old City from unique angles and uncover its hidden stories.
Meals: Not included
Accommodation: Overnight in Kashgar
Kashgar – China-Pakistan Highway – White Sand Lake – Karakul Lake – Tashkurgan
Drive along one of the world’s top ten most dangerous highways – the Karakoram Highway.
Today we follow the legendary China-Pakistan Friendship Highway deep into the Pamir Plateau. Starting in Kashgar and extending all the way into Pakistan, this road winds across the highlands with snow-capped peaks and wetlands accompanying us along the way.
Arrival in Tashkurgan – the only Chinese county bordering three countries
By evening, we reach Tashkurgan County, which borders Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan. Here lives the ancient and mysterious Tajik ethnic group, descendants of an ancient Europoid lineage. As the last rays of sunlight fall upon this borderland town, we’ll enjoy an immersive Tajik intangible cultural heritage bonfire evening before resting for the night.
Meals: Breakfast included

Tasha Ancient Trail – Following the footsteps of Xuanzang
“East of the Onion Ridge, among the four surrounding mountains”—as described in Records of the Western Regions of the Great Tang. We cross the Kandarl Pass, enjoy lunch with a local Tajik family, then journey deeper along the Tasha Ancient Trail. By dusk, we arrive at Apricot Blossom Village, where we will stay in a Tajik local house (shared bedding; complimentary disposable sleeping bag provided).

This historic fortress once belonged to the ancient Puli Kingdom, one of the 36 states of the Western Regions during the Han Dynasty. Xuanzang stayed here for several days on his return journey from India, preaching Buddhist teachings. Standing atop the 2,000-year-old fortress ruins, you can still gaze upon the endless mountain ranges beyond.
