Guiyang/Longli/Dushan-Xiaoqikong-Xijiang Miao Village
After breakfast, depart by coach to visit the national AAAAA-level scenic area—Xiaoqikong. The area is named after a small seven-arch stone bridge built in the 15th year of the Daoguang era (1836). Known as a “super bonsai,” it integrates mountains, water, caves, forests, lakes, and waterfalls into a single landscape. Within a canyon less than 2 kilometers long, 68 cascading waterfalls tumble and surge downward. A 600-meter-long “Water Forest” features tree roots entwined around rocks, with clear streams washing over bluestones, creating an immersive fairy-tale-like experience.
Later, proceed to the Southeast Guizhou original ecological Miao tribe—Xijiang Thousand Households Miao Village. Home to over 1,250 households and nearly 6,000 residents, the village is renowned for its unique stilted wooden houses built along the mountain slopes, layer upon layer, forming a distinctive and magnificent sight. Here, visitors can not only learn about the Miao people’s long history and development but also experience the cultural essence of the Miao capital.
The Xijiang Ancient Street, located at the heart of the village, consists of two main commercial lanes where shops and restaurants—mostly decorated in traditional Miao style—are concentrated. Wandering through the ancient streets, visitors can see Miao wooden houses covering the surrounding high mountains.
The Gage Ancient Path (meaning “small lanes of the Miao village” in the Miao language) is home to several must-visit cultural spots, including the “Origin of Xijiang,” which showcases the village’s earliest history, and the “Family Sacrificial Bridge,” which reflects the ancient Miao tradition of bridge worship. Live cultural demonstrations, such as ancient song performances, antiphonal love songs, silver jewelry crafting, and rice wine brewing, are also featured here.
The layered terraces and numerous waterwheels serve as the granary of Xijiang, sustaining the Miao people and embodying their diligence and wisdom. The village, built on a 70-degree slope, presents a spectacular sight. As night falls, thousands of lights illuminate the area, creating a breathtaking scene. The entire Xijiang Thousand Households Miao Village resembles a beautiful painting, leaving visitors enchanted and reluctant to leave. After the tour, check in at a Xijiang inn.
