- Kunming has a large temperature difference between morning and evening. Even in summer, the wind by the lake is strong, and temperatures are lower in the early morning and evening. We recommend bringing a thin jacket with you to avoid catching a cold and ruining your travel itinerary.
- When feeding the black-headed gulls in winter, always buy regular, special gull feed. Do not feed them bread, snacks, salty food, or other inappropriate items, as this will harm the health of the gulls and damage the ecological environment of Dianchi Lake. Also, always keep safety in mind when feeding the gulls—do not scare or catch the birds, as violations can result in fines of up to several thousand RMB.
- For travelers who want to cycle around the lake, the full lake loop road is about 150 kilometers long. - Around Haigeng Dam, there are many street vendors selling low-priced gull feed, much of which is expired or unsuitable for black-headed gulls to eat. - Around the dam, you will encounter many people soliciting business, recommending low-priced Dianchi Lake boat cruises, Western Hills day trips, and lake-looping private cars. Many of these have hidden costs and forced shopping, so always be cautious. Do not easily trust low-priced sales pitches from random people on the street, and always choose official boat cruises and products from regular travel agencies.
- Many street photography stalls advertise low-priced photos, but after taking your pictures, they will force you to buy multiple photos with lots of hidden costs. If you want to have your photo taken, always ask about the full price and rules in advance to avoid being scammed.
- When visiting the wetland parks, always follow the scenic area rules. Do not enter unopened areas, do not step on the lawns, and do not swim or play in the water. Also, protect the environment and do not litter, to help preserve the ecological environment of Dianchi Lake together.
- The vast majority of core wetlands along Dianchi Lake and Haigeng Dam are free to enter. If you encounter non-official channels charging for entry, do not trust them, to avoid wasting your money.
