Stop 1: Right Branch (1.5–2 Hours)

This is the most scenic section of Jiuzhaigou and should be your highest priority.

Recommended Route:

Arrow Bamboo Lake → Panda Lake → Five Flower Lake → Pearl Shoal Waterfall → Mirror Lake

Arrow Bamboo Lake

One of the filming locations for the movie Hero.

Early in the morning, the calm water reflects forests and mountains beautifully.

Panda Lake

Known for its exceptionally clear water and pristine surroundings.

Legend says wild pandas once frequented this area, giving the lake its name.

Five Flower Lake

The most famous attraction in Jiuzhaigou.

Its vibrant layers of blue, green, yellow, and turquoise create an astonishing natural palette.

Plan to spend at least 20–30 minutes here.

For the best panoramic view, head to Tiger Mouth Viewpoint.

Pearl Shoal Waterfall

One of Jiuzhaigou’s most iconic waterfalls.

It gained fame as a filming location in the 1986 television adaptation of Journey to the West.

The broad waterfall creates thousands of sparkling droplets resembling pearls.

Mirror Lake

Famous for its mirror-like reflections on calm days.

If you’re short on time, this attraction can be skipped.

Should You Visit Primeval Forest?

For most visitors, it is not essential.

Some areas close during winter, and even during peak season, the scenery is generally less impressive than Five Flower Lake or Pearl Shoal Waterfall.

Stop 2: Left Branch (1–1.5 Hours)

Although this section has fewer attractions, it contains some of Jiuzhaigou’s most spectacular lakes.

Recommended Route:

Long Lake → Five-Color Pond

Long Lake

The largest and deepest lake in Jiuzhaigou.

Surrounded by mountains and often backed by snowy peaks, it offers breathtaking panoramic views.

Five-Color Pond

Small in size but extraordinary in color.

The pond displays vivid shades of blue, green, turquoise, and emerald under sunlight.

It is considered one of the most photogenic spots in the park.

Best Photo Spot at Five-Color Pond

Walk to the elevated boardwalk viewpoint and shoot downward toward the pond.

This angle perfectly captures both the colorful water and surrounding forest.

Important Note for Seniors

The path between Long Lake and Five-Color Pond involves a considerable number of stairs.

Visitors with knee issues or limited mobility should plan accordingly.

Stop 3: Central Branch (About 2 Hours)

This section features lakes, waterfalls, and scenic boardwalks.

Recommended Route:

Rhinoceros Lake → Shuzheng Waterfall → Shuzheng Lakes → Sparkling Lake → Double Dragon Lake → Reed Lake → Bonsai Shoal

Rhinoceros Lake

One of the most beautiful lakes in Jiuzhaigou.

Its reflections and water colors are particularly impressive on sunny days.

Shuzheng Lakes

A must-visit attraction.

Climb to the observation platform for panoramic views of multiple interconnected lakes.

This is where you truly appreciate the meaning of Jiuzhaigou’s famous “group lakes.”

Sparkling Lake

Best viewed under strong sunlight.

On cloudy days, it may appear less impressive.

Reed Lake

Most beautiful during autumn when golden reeds cover the wetland.

Summer scenery is comparatively ordinary.

Easy Route Option

Take the bus from Sparkling Lake directly to Bonsai Shoal, then walk to Reed Lake before returning to Bonsai Shoal to exit the park.
