Most travelers spend a night at Ranwu Lake before visiting the glacier and continuing toward Bomi or Medog.

Yalong Glacier vs. Laigu Glacier

Laigu Glacier Scenic Area currently consists of different sightseeing routes.
Route A leads to the glacial lake viewpoint. Visitors can no longer access the glacier itself, meaning the famous blue ice cave is also inaccessible.
Route B continues toward Yalong Glacier and offers much more dramatic scenery.

If you bring a small snack, marmots may approach out of curiosity, but never touch or feed wildlife directly, as they may carry diseases and should remain wild.
How to Reach Yalong Glacier
There are currently two common transportation options.
Drive a 4WD Vehicle Yourself
Some local villagers charge approximately RMB 100 per person for road access.
However, the road is extremely rough, consisting of loose rocks, steep mountain climbs, and sharp turns.
Unless you’re experienced with off-road mountain driving, self-driving is not recommended.
Take a Local Villager’s Off-Road Vehicle
This is the option chosen by most visitors.
The cost is approximately RMB 200 per person, including transportation and a local driver familiar with the route.
The journey from Bada Village to the glacier takes around 40–60 minutes.
Yalong Glacier
Alternative Route That Avoids the Main Scenic Area Entrance
Many independent travelers now choose an alternative route.
Instead of entering through the Laigu Glacier ticket gate, navigate to Bada Village (巴达村) and add Wuludui (屋鲁堆) as a waypoint.
From there, local vehicles can take you to Yalong Glacier.
This option usually avoids purchasing the main scenic area entrance ticket, reducing the overall cost considerably.

Best Time for Photography
Arrive before 10:00 AM whenever possible.
